Helmets: What do I look for ....?

I'm going to an estate sale tomorrow at a local auction company that specializes in "junk clearances". However, the auctioneer, who lives 8 houses away from me says that he's received a consignment of WW2 stuff-including an odd helmet. He described the helmet and it's definetly a Falschimjager pot. However, he woudn't confirm that this all came out of a local estate, which I thought was odd.
So anyway, I'm going off tomorrow to have a look at the stuff. There's sure to be pickers there-including one from Bill Shea.
What do I look for for in a real helmet? Anything a dead giveaway as to fake?

    Many thanks,
    JeMc

Hi Jeff, lots of threads here on this subject. Swot up on the subject today.

Here is a very quick outline on the subject. I would first look at the markings and the rim. If a size 71, check the "1" does not have a foot to it. That is the line which forms the base to the number. If it is footed, it is bad. The rim should be neatly and evenly folded and exhibit a line inpressed to the fold from the machine process. Checkout photos here and in the members only forum to see what I mean.

Czech made fakes are all incorrect in shape/outline. The rear flange flares out too far. As a result the liner band will have a gap around it at the rear.

Cut down M35's in most cases will feature bad folds to the rim, poor formed holes for the liner bolts etc.

    Cheers, Ade.
