Being very new to collecting, I was wondering WHY is this item so rare?

This is way overpriced. I know where there are two in collections within driving distance from my house and know of several in collections around the country. Not THAT rare.

IMHO the cloth version is more rare than the metal badge.

It depends on which of the metal versions we are talking about, but I would say it is 25 times more rare than the 1943 pattern in feinzink or the second pattern aluminum, and equal in rarity to the first pattern in aluminum.

Ron,

Are any that you know of available? Could you post some photos of them? I've never actually seen one, except in photos, and would appreciate seeing more examples.

I think I saw 3 at the last SOS. Two were priced in the same range as the one which started this thread. The 3rd one went to a friend of mine, and was bought for very little. It came into the show with the owner of those brown FJ boots we featured a thread on.

Willi, the one featured here was one of those 3 (which obviously did not sell). The other one I bought last month for 3500. Sounds like your friend got a really good deal on the other one.

They are certainly not flying of the shelf at this price, but eventually I think they will move.

I have 3 and wish I could afford more. They are beautifully made pieces.
