    Perhaps a NCO ...

    Like on sports clothes ...

    One white bar - NCO
    Two white bars - Officer

just what first comes to my mind ...

Stephan, I figured they were likely to be rank. I have seen some (earlier photos) others, but they appeared to go around the entire sleeve. As I suspect this is a late 1943 photo, I was surprised to see this.

          great photo Willi !!!

also what popped out for me was the Radom holster. Very few period photos with Radom in use..

this photo has a lot going for it.

            Agree - super photo.
Could it be an NCO of SS-FJ-Btl 500? The penal "NCOs" and "officers" used one and two narrow stripes respectively just like the one in your pic. Shame the belt buckle isn't really visible.

I was going to add that I'm 99.9% certain I've seen this photo before labeled as SS-FJ. (Doesn't mean it is of course, just that I recognize it).

Thank you for the info on the white markings as well.

Seems to be a silver buckle with the left wing : SS .

                    Karl is correct. Good eye!

With photos of splinter bags being so uncommon, it is interesting to see another. I guess we can assume the photo was taken in 1944.

if SS this maybe why he's carrying a Radom not the typical P08 ?

Wayne, wasn't the Radom used mainly by the Waffen SS?

As someone noted this photo was linked to an SS para guy.
                          I'm only speculating that's why he's carrying a Radom.

The SS were issued mostly foreign captured/produced weapons.

Typically Luft para guys are seen with P08 holsters of the occasional p38

good chance as BNZ (Steyr-Werke) who made them had big contract with WSS
