I've had this some time, however initially what caught my eye was the holder was a member of a Kavallerie unit which is one of my main collecting areas, then I noticed a desirable and recognisable signature authorising the driving license!
It was issued on the 25.5.1939 to Wachtmeister Josef Decker, born 10.1.1911 in Brohl in the state of Rheinland-Pfalz.
At this time he was serving with 7 Schwadron, Kavallerie Regiment 11 stationed in Stockerau, Austria. The license is authorised by the Major und II. Abteiling Kommandeur Helmuth von Pannwitz, later Generalleutnant and holder of the Ritterkreuz mit Eichenlaub.
Also holds a nice photo of the holder wearing Waffenrock.
The license was issued for class 1 vehicles (motorcylce) with further endorsements to the rear for class 2 (car/truck over 3½ ton) authorised by Major und Abteiling Kommandeur Constantin Graf zu Castell-Castell, later Oberst and holder of the Ehrenblattspange and class 3 (car/truck under 3½ ton), I have yet to identify this signature....von Rauch/Reusch?
7 (Radfahr) Schwadron, Kavallerie Regiment 11 became 2 Schwadron, Aufklärungs Abteilung 44 of 44 Infanterie Division on mobilisation August 1939. After it's destruction at Stalingrad the Division was renamed Reichsgrenadier Division Hoch und Deutschmeister. Again another interest for me with units at Stalingrad!
However, after a little further research the latter was not to be for Herr Decker, he was killed 3.8.1941 as an Oberwachtmeister fighting in the Ukraine.
Josef Decker has not yet been transferred to a military cemetery set up by the Volksbund.According to the information available to us, his grave is currently in the following place: Bila Zerkwa -Ukraine.
Surname: Decker
Forename: Josef
Rank: Oberwachtmeister
Date of birth: 10.01.1911
Place of birth: Bröhl
Date of death: 03.08.1941
Place of death: Bialacerkiew

Ian
