A very late Soldbuch award entry - June 1945

The man was wounded by gun shot on May 03, 1945.
On June 05, 1945, almost a month after the war, the wound badge in black was awarded to him and entered in his Soldbuch. The entry was made at a hospital (Reservelazarett) in Waldenburg, Saxony. The hospital was located in the American occupied part of Waldenburg.

The town of Waldenburg was divided by a river. On April 13 1945 the west half of the town is occupied by American forces and east part by the Russians. On June 15 1945 the Americans moved west leaving Saxony and with it Waldenburg to the Russians.

Before he arrived at Reservelazarett Waldenburg he was transported on a make-shift hospital train. BVZ = Behelfsmäßiger Verwundeten-Zug
On May 03, he was shot somewhere in the Czech republic. On May 15, a week after the war he is recorded on hospital train BVZ-6363.

A month after the war in the American zone, across the river from the Russian occupied part of the town, the bureaucracy of the Wehrmacht is still issuing award documents complete with swastika on the stamp.

It's not the first time that I see postwar bestowals of awards.
Sometime the request took time to be elaborated. And probably a Wound Badge document could be also useful to get a disability pension.

Yes, another interesting case, with still hakenkreuz on stamp, one month after the end of the war. Curious because at that time, denazification was in progress.

i like the entries of EK2 and IAB in this soldbuch in the very late time.
i remember the episode in film <Der Untergang>, getting EK2 in that time
is more dangerous and bravely !
on the other hand, it is so rare the solider still has his unit to reward him !

Yes, the same thing was done in POW camps as well.

The EKII was awarded after several close combat days in the Carpathian mountains.

I have a similar SB where the man was badly wounded in mid-April 1945 and then died in the Darmstadt reserve military hospital on May 11, 1945 while the town was occupied by the Americans. Interestingly, the last entry for his death does not use a unit stamp with a swastika and it has an annotation indicating there no longer was a higher unit in command and as such no stamp.

beautiful Pages.. on annotations and documents in captivity: he was a pow of the Americans in Germany and I have seen several of them in Italy; in these cases often the captured German units were self-managed with many of their orderly room (rules and feldpost stampincluded) fully functional.

I am not surprised by the "post war" award but by the presence of swastika on a stamp one month after the end, and against all allied orders about denazification. There are many examples of modified stamps on originals documents, but I believe, very few with swastika for this time.

I have similar cases of post war closure at least until the end of June with normal non-demilitarized feldposts ... here for example the case of a Leutnant of the Schw. Pz Jag. Abt. 525
