It definitely is post WW2 German....

Yes, Bundeswehr. The GE is for Germany. In the long section below this just above the snap line will be the owners military personal number and his date of birth. I cannot see if these are filled in or not. On the reverse will be blood group and injection information.

Here is a Bundeswehr tag from 1958 for comparison.

Notice the "Personenkennnummer" soldiers serial number: 050214 H 2171

The first 6 digits are the DOB: 05. February 1914

The letter in the middle is the first letter of the man's last name: H

The next 3 digits are for the Kreiswehrersatzamt (KWEA): 217

Last digit is the "laufende Nummer" running number: 1

The "E" is for "Evangelisch" Lutheran

On the back is the blood type: B Rh+
