    Soldbuch - Ritterkreuzträger Walter Knöspel

    Hello Friends,

Just wanted to share my newest acquisition of my first soldbuch of a Knights Cross recipient. The soldbuch (second issue) came with a very interesting document allowing him use of a vehicle with petrol. Interesting indeed, I think.

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts!

    Thanks,
    Jonathan

Nice signature Generalmajor Oakleaves winner Wilhelm BLECKWENN, former co. 708.V.G.D., the div. who fought around my village in nov.1944.

Wow Johnathan, very nice indeed! As you probably already know Knöspel died near Celle in May, 1945. Attached is a period pic taken in Russia during 1942 from another website showing Knöspel. He is standing on the far left wearing RK. On the far right is Generalleutnant Gollwitzer.

Naxos, thank you very much! A faded copy of that page came with the soldbuch, so I am happy to see a much clearer copy with a nice picture of Knoespel!

I would greatly appreciate any additional information on Knoespel when you are able to get to it. Thanks again!

                  Hello !

Very nice Soldbuch group and thanks for sharing it !

It is also very interesting, because of the late connection to service with 1. Marine Inf.Div., not shown in the SB
but only due to the additional paper doc !

Is it known when he was wounded ? The last info that I found on this unit was, that it was fighting near Schmölln
and then was destroyed after ~25.4.45. If I understand correcttly, Knoespel was wounded around that time in April
and died in hospital in Celle in May 1945 ?!

                  Best regards,

                  Archi

                    Thanks, Archi, for your post.

Knoespel died on May 5, 1945 at the hospital in Celle and is buried in the war section of the municipal cemetery there. He died as a result of a severe head wound. I am trying to research his last unit to find out (if possible) exactly where he was wounded. It is a little odd because Celle seems on a map a good distance away from where they were fighting the Russians, so I am always thinking about how he was evacuated, etc.

I would be very grateful to anyone with additional information on Knoespel.
