    Wehrpass - help please

I would appreciate help with the 1936-38 entries on this Luftwaffe Wehrpass.

Is there any chance that this NCO served in Spain?
    Thanks in advance.

It looks like Detmold, (Germany), to me.

      Hello !

I agree with cesky67, that his first unit was located in Detmold, there he probably received his basic training.
      (I cannot read/find the unit ... ).

Then he spent the next 18 month with Fliegerhorst-Kp. Mannheim. After that, he was likely dismissed (in that case,
there should be an entry on p. 24) and then drafted again at the start of WW II.

From what is shown, I can see no connection to a service in Spain. What makes you think so ?

      Best regards,

      Archi

If he was commandeered for the Legion Condor it could be elsewhere in the Wehrpaß.

I have a couple that were in Spain and there is no mention of anything in the documents at all except they had Spanish awards.

One that I have simply has "Winterübung Rügen", this was a fictitious exercise in the Baltic to transfer manpower to Spain as it was secret at the time. You were supposed to volunteer, but not all did.....the best men were selected initially.

Another entry is "Sonderstab W" which was the Staff/codeword also sending manpower to Spain.

Thanks all for the really helpful information and tips - time to search the pages you mentioned.

The reason I am wondering if he served in Spain is as has been suggested - the estate grouping came with a ribbon bar which has Spanish War medals. He started as a Luftwaffe Reservist and then later served with JG 77 and 5.

No mention in the Wehrpass for those awards?

They are the Spanish Military Merit Cross in Red and the Campaign Medal.

Check the entries for medals, is the inly way to see if he served in Spain during the Civil War.
