That is a very nice soldbuch.

His unit fought under the 25th Flak Division/Flak Regiment 131 or 137. In June 1944 they were in the partisan infested Adriatic Kustenland command area, hence the mention of the city of Ancona. Luftwaffe personnel qualified for the APB in bronze for 30 days of anti-partisan action. Whether or not he qualified is another question.

a page of a similar Flak WP (163 Flak Abt. same Regiment) compiled in captivity. Same date of closure of the Wallestein operation 8.8.1944. And a map of the area of operations against the areas occupied by the partisans.

              thanks Hunderstaffel.

a note: his activity in Ancona (Adriatic Kustenland) Febbruary-June 1944 was not against partisans but as Flak Service against allied bombing.

The Wallenstein operation was a series of roundups organized by the Nazi-Fascists with the aim of eliminating the partisans and at the same time putting under its control the territory that was behind the Gothic line, in the summer of 1944. During the summer of 1944 the WEhrmacht forces had lost control of many mountainous areas thanks to the partisan forces but also by the approach of the war front by the allies in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. By the code name "Wallenstein" we mean a series of raids carried out by Nazi-fascist forces in different areas:

Wallenstein I (30 June-7 July), in the area east of the Cisa pass up to the Cisa state road 62 (Parma)

Wallenstein II (18-29 July), in the areas of the Taro valley and the Ceno valley (Parma)

Wallenstein III (30 July-7 August), in the territory of the partisan republic of Montefiorino located between the province of Reggio nell'Emilia and Modena

The forces made available were very conspicuous. The sources speak 5/6000 men, effectively one of the largest camps deployed by German forces in anti-partisan operations in Italy. However, the troops gathered for the reconquest of the Apennine valleys had been collected here and there in the rear, among the unnecessary forces at the front. They included a large number of Luftwaffe soldiers (Flak, Trasmissions and airport dervice men) from units evacuated from central Italy or transferred from Liguria, Piedmont and the Po Valley. In particolar during the Wallestein III , a large Flak group was active in the area Reggio Emilia and Modena for the final blow to the partisans of the Montefiorino Republic, under the command of the Flak-Regiment 131, composed by "heavy" Flak (163, 259, 575 and 603) and "light" ( 843, 985 and our 914 left from Turin)

              ciao Oriano

thnaks you for showing this nice wherpass!

the annotations of activities against the partisans in Flak's wehrpass in Italy are not common, and very rare are those where they mention the Wallestein Operation explicitly, and they are always annotations of after the end of the war during the compilations in the Rimini Enklave POW camps . .. for example this is a Wehrpass, of a leading and frontline unit in the Wallestein III operation, which fell shortly after, and without any reference or note...

All three were in the same unit and two entries written in blue are done by the same hand. The dates from this entries are identical. I have some Soldbücher from others who served in the same unit at that time but these entries weren't written in their Soldbücher.

                        regards
