With Marschkompanie Panzer-Grenadier-Ersatz-Bataillon 5, mobilized as a "Gneisenau-Einheit" in January 1945, he was fighting the advancing Russians in Pomerania.

Of particular interest are the dates and locations of his close combat days:

January 26 and 27, 1945 at Karlshof (a farm estate)

February 03, 1945 at Flederborn (Podgaje)

This Feldwebel escaped the fighting at the "Pommernwall" retreating north with "Division Bärwalde" .

He was wounded by gunshot on March 01, 1945.

He couldn't have been severely wounded since ten days later he was released from a military hospital in Pinneberg and send to a new replacement unit - 2. Marsch.Kp./-Panzer-Grenadier-E.u.A.-Btl.76

Awards entered in the Soldbuch are PAB in bronze and WB in black.

Nothing further is known of this man's fate.

Kz. 1382, can anyone help with the deciphering of this unit? Is it a POW unit he was placed in after surrender?

          Thanks for looking!

These late war units are hard to track. Great job!

                Hello !

Very interesting late war Soldbuch !
Thanks for sharing (and presenting some interesting puzzles in understanding). (a late easter egg if you want ) ...

Both units are extremely hard to track, just as Jeff/JUNGCO mentioned.
                Is this Panzer-Grenadier-Ersatz-Bataillon 5 = Gneisenau 11/XXI ?!

I could not find any infos on its strength or a possible Kdr. (combat group leader), or its deployment under this designation.
To me, it is also unclear, where this unit fought after Flederborn in February/early March 45, or whether by then
it had been incorporated into any another unit.

                After his wounding, he came to 2. Marsch-Kp. / Pz.Gren.Ers.u.Ausb.Btl. 76 :
I think there is a good chance, that this unit became a part of : "Panzer-Ausbildungsverband Ostsee"
after activation during Aktion Leuthen (see scan). It would be interesting, whether there are any other
entries in the SB (weapons/equipment ?!), that could support this idea.

                Best regards,

                Archi

P.S.: I have no idea, what kind of unit Kz. 1382 could be.
I cannot find a good idea for the abbreviation, neither in German or English .
