the photo of Gunther's grave at the German cemetery of Roccasecca "on the Casilina road" ... It is difficult to identify it among the 4/5 Germans in the area (from a map of the German prisoners of 1946 that set up the burials of their comrades) ... One of the German cemeteries of Roccasecca (always from the site "dal Volturno a Cassino") ...

And these are three photos (it seems the same Sturmgeschutz III mired and abandoned) dated January 9, 1944 and taken in San Vittore del Lazio , 2 km
away from our point: Sturm.Gesh. Abteilung 242 without a doubt

            Caro Oriano,

as usual you did a wonderful job researching the military history of your guy.
Not very often you find such a dense material and the chance explanating the situation of a
            fallen soldier.
            Compliments!

            Cari saluti

thanks again to all Gerdan, and especially new information about his father Hugo
                    headmaster in the Hamburg "Christianeum".

                    and following your information

                    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gymnasium_Christianeum

I'm always interested in the personal and family history of these guys to better understand their military profile. And this case for example, Gunther as well as a Stug commander, was a brilliant student (Latin!), son of a professor, or rather a headmaster of a High School famous throughout Germany for the teaching of the Latin, and He obtains in the middle of the war a special license to finish his studies.

garzie ancora di tutto amico mio.
                    Ciao Oriano
