    Who likes LW Flak? Me

One more for the increasing collection of Flak Soldbuchs in my home.

Here we have the Soldbuch from Ludwig Baumrock, born in Lockenhaus on February 12th, 1.914.

He was inducted in the LW On October 13th, 1.939 and signed to 1./Fl.Ausb.Rgt 12. and, after passing through several training and reserve units, ended in the 1./leichte Flak Abteilung 77, his sole combat unit alongside the rest of the war.

His service suffered just a couple of interruptions:

First from November 20th, 1.942 till December 12th, 1.942 when he was at Kreigs Lazarett mot 1/637 suffering from Malaria and was discharged to his unit.
Second from July 9th, 1.943 till October 12th, 1.943 as a result of a close encounter with a Russian flying piece of metal. He passed from several hospitals till discharged again to his unit (till July 21st in Kriegs Lazarett 4/533 (R) then transfer to Reserve Lazarett II Krakau Temazarett Robert Koch where he arrived on 23rd and transfer again on August 2nd arriving to Reserve Lazarett XXVb Wien on the 3rd and finally discharged on October 12th) He received two leaves after discharged, first from October 13th till 28th on the same day of his release and a second on November 5th till 27th. He finally was again with his unit on December 2nd, 1.943 and no more wounds or leaves till the end of the war.

While serving with 1./leichte Flak Abteilung 77 he was subordinated to the next units:

June 1.941 I Flakkorps under Stab/Flak Regiment 104 in support to Panzergruppe 2
    November 1.942 9 Flak Division under Stab/Flak Regiment 91
December 1.942 15 Flak Division in the Caucasus 2./77 surrender at Stalingrad
    November 1.943 15 Flak Division under Stab/Flak Regiment 4
    Januray 1.944 15 Flak Division under Stab/Flak Regiment 153
February 1.944 15 Flak Division under Stab/Flak Regiment 4 with this fought in Jassy (August 44) and Debrecen (October 44)
    December 1.944 15 Flak Division unde Stab/Flak Regiment 133
    1945 in Plattensee

As normal our soldier was promoted during the war:
Gefreiter on May 1st, 1.941 confirmed on the same day by 4 Res.Battr.9/VI
Obergefreiter on December 1st, 1.941 confirmed on the same day by 1/l.Flak Abt.77
Stabsgefreiter on October 1st, 1.944 confirmed on the same day by 1./l.Flak Abt. 77

Also he performed well enough to won several awards.
Wound Badge in Black on October 14th, 1.942 (must be a light injury as no hospital time enter in his records) authorized by 1./l.Flak Abt. 77
Iron Cross 2nd Class on July 20th, 1.943 by 10 Flak Division (I need to see with which unit he was fighting at this time as I have a gap in the year 1.943)
Ostmedaille on October 7th, 1.943 by Res.Laz. XXV Wien awarded on August 7th, 1.942
    Erdkampfabzeichen on April 20, 1.944 by 1/l.Flak Abt. 77
    Flakkampfabzeichen on May 11th, 1.944

Hope you like it as much as I do.

Any ask or info is welcomed.

Very nice and interesting example. Thanks for sharing.

Also interesting in that he took the trouble to update his photo after promotion to Stabsgefreiter. And a very cool photo at that! I do not have many Soldbuch or Wehrpass examples in my collection, but usually they didn't bother to change their photo. Oftentimes the photo is an "old" photo a rank or two under what they ended the war as.

What makes you think he changed his photo? Looks like the first one to me.......Soldbuch photos were not generally added until 1944 (some in 1943) but most after April 1944 (Except Kriegsmarine...they had them from 1941)

I am with Ian, first and only photo in the Soldbuch, no other marks or partial stamps that indicate a photo change.

I like Flak too. That one is interesting, with very nice photo.
As always in Luftwaffe Soldbuch, his speciality is written in red on first page. But here, I don't understand whats means "1 m R36" ?

                      Hello Angel !

Nice Soldbuch with a very nice photo ! Thanks for sharing.

                      Interesting observation by Luft76 ! I didn't notice that.
I think in this case it reads :
                      E[ntfernungs]-Meßmann 1 in/im R 36

Are such entries indeed made in all Lw-SBs ?

                      Best regards,

                      Archi

                        It is simply:

                        E[ntfernungs]-Meßmann 1 m R 36

Which is the type of ranger finder he was trained on.

Another typical example is K1, K2 etc....Kanonier 1....number one (two etc.) gunner on a particular gun.

Just off the cuff guess since I have a couple that the photo depicts one or two ranks lower than their ultimate rank. I'm not a Soldbuch specialist, so I'll defer to your analysis. I may have done a "Ready... Fire... Aim..." with my comment.

                              Nonetheless, really nice Soldbuch.
