Thank you for the reply. I saw that he was in a fallschirmjager unit from 44 on, it was an interesting find, together with the pin and he armband- although there’s no way to put those necessarily together with the book, I’ll probably sell it as a mixed set as found on the estand. I like it all, but you can’t collect everything (unfortunately) as they say..., thank you again.

As you can see he spent most of his war comfortably out of the way in Norway. His world clearly turned upside down in Oct.44, likely due to being caught up in one of the 'comb outs' of personnel to rebuild shattered units. In this case fallschirm granatwerfer Btl. 3 of the 3 FJ Div. but he might also have volunteered for frontline service, but given the timing, i would go for being transferred.Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

Büttner was promoted to Sanitäts-Stabsgefreiter on 1 February 1945, so he was most likely in combat from October 1944 until at least February 1945, and probably until the end of the war...he was most likely involved in the fighting at Arnheim, The Battle of the Bulge, Remagen and the Ruhr Pocket. Here is some more about the division: http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...nen/3FJD-R.htm
