              Hello !

Very interesting Soldbuch. Thanks for showing it !

I don't think that this SB is connected to the battles of the Arnheim bridge.

My understanding is the following :
His first unit (Füsilier-Ersatz-Bataillon 39) was activated as Walküre unit
of WK VI ~6.9.44 and took positions along the border W and SW of Kleve, between Kessel and Kranenburg
              (~opposite Gennep - Groesbeek) under control of Div. z.b.V. 406 (Gen.Lt. Scherbening).

Here it took part in the first countermeasures against the Allied airlandings on the 17. and 18. Sept., which failed.
(During the attack on the 20.9., the Btl. acted as reserve of the Division 406 and perhaps was not committed).

Soon after, the whole area came under control of II. Fs.Korps and the Div.Nr. 190 took over the area
S of Kranenburg to ~Goch from Div. z.b.V. 406. It is likely, that the entry referring to Middelaar (3.10.44)
is connected to the final attack of II. Fs.Korps on 1./2.10. to gain control on Groesbeek and den Heuvel
and drive back the Allied forces from Nimegen (which faltered).

              In October/November 1944, Div.Nr. 190 and the Walküre/Gneisenau units attached to it were reorganized into 190. Inf.Div.
Around that time, the Füs.Ers.Btl. 39 (listed as Ers.Btl. Cleve in the FMS report of Gen.Lt. Hammer)
must have been incorporated into Gren.(Ers.)Rgt. 520, which finally was redesignated as Gren.Rgt. 1226.

It would be interesting to see, when the SB was issued and whether there are any hospital entries.

              Thanks again and best regards,

              Archi
