KM Transfer to 9. Pz Division Solbuch and Document

I like Soldbücher from men who transferred from one service to another. Here is perhaps a typical yet interesting one:

Soldbuch to Maschinengefreiter later Panzergrenadier Gefreiter Josef Vogel born in 1925 in Binzwangen.

Vogel’s Soldbuch was issued on 20. August 1943. He was posted to various Naval instructional and construction units. He was finally posted to a Freileitungbaukompanie (overhead electrical construction company). At the end of August 1944, to replace the heavily depleted Army units, Vogel turned in his navy blue uniform, was issued an Army uniform and accessories and began training with Infanterie-Pionier Ausbildungs Kompanie 20 in Hamburg.

On 14.-21. October 1944 Vogel was sent to a training course for Flame Throwers with the Pionier-Bataillon 1190 of the 190. Infanterie Division. An interesting division itself, though I think the Lehrgang was with this Pi Btl 1190 and he was not assigned to this division.

Vogel was then transferred to the Pionier Kompanie of Panzer Grenadier Regiment 10 of 9. Panzer Division. Vogel most likely was transferred to the division as a replacement after receiving Pionier Training. In a matter of weeks, the 9. PD was severely reduced in strength. At the end of September, the division was sent to defend Aachen, the first major German city to fall to the Allies (on 31. October 1944). The division then pulled out of the line to refit around Xanten (this might also be the same time that Vogel was transferred to the division).

      On 1. November 1944, Vogel was issued a “Maschinenpistole 44”. (StG 44).

On 22. November 1944 during the heavy fighting around the salient position around Gelsenkirchen (Operation Clipper) against the US 84th Infantry Division, Vogel was wounded ( 31b – schrapnel wounds) so severely that he was awarded the Wound Badge in Silver. Generally this would be accompanied by the award of the EK 2. Klasse which is not entered in the Soldbuch.

Vogel was transferred to the SS Lazarett in Weilmunster then to further hospitals throughout 1944 and 1945.

The award document was first issued on 24. March 1945.

        Vogel survived the war.

            Hello Erich !

Interesting documents, with the transfer from Kriegsmarine to Heer.
            Very nice pickup !

After his transfer, this soldier was first posted to a Pi-EuA.-Kp. for infantry engineers in Hamburg-Fischbeck
            (part of Pi.EuA Btl. 20, subordinated to Div.Nr. 190),
but later was transferred to Pi.EuA.Kp. 20 which was directly subordinated to Kdr.Pz.Tr. WK X
and first located in Hamburg-Wandsbek (at least unitl August 1944), but at some time later (when ?) relocated
to Lübeck (see scan, with he first two scans from Aug. 1944, the last one from 1945).

I think that this soldier perhaps was sent to the field with Div.Nr. 190, before he was transferred to 9. Pz.Div.:
What would be in accordance with that assumption, is the designation on p. 25, Pz.Gren.Pi.EuA.Kp. 20/X and the
course he participated undercommand of HQ FPN 43408, which was/became the Pi.Btl. 1190.

What's against it, is that he obviously was transferred to a unit directly subordinated to Kdr. Pz.Truppen WK X,
and that this co. is not mentioned in the call up of Div.Nr. 190, while other companies under that Kdr. are.
So it might also be possible, that he was transferred from the replacement unit directly to 9. Pz.Div. ?!
            Needs more research.

Interesting group in any case, also with the VWA(Silber) doc. Thanks for showing !

            Best regards,

            Archi
