Couple of questions refering to my Soldbucher

    Hello,

I managed to find some time to look through some of my Soldbucher. I cannot read some of the entries (marked red). I hope that some of the members could possibly help me.

Was he conscripted in 1944 or was that when the Soldbuch was issued (bottom page 2)? It has all the looks of a replacement Soldbuch so his first one would of been replaced with this one for a variety of reasons.

      Hi,

Yes, that would be the simplest anwser. However there is no indication (apart from this award) that he served before 1944. There's no writing ZWEITSCHRIFT on the Soldbuch.

      All the best

He also received a kvk in 1943.
So he must have served before 1944.

The very first rank listed on page 1 will also confirm service prior to 1944. If he served in 1941/42 then the chances are that his first rank listed will be Gefreiter, Obergefreiter etc but if he did just join up in 1944 he might still have the lowest rank for a private soldier.

Any idea what does it mean: "Filzstiefel Arctic"?

Ian, I knew what Filzstiefeln were but have no clue about the ,,Arctic" ones.

Floris, hucks216 - yes it seems he really served before 1944. But the date of the issue of the next Soldbuch and no info that it was a Zweitschrift misled me.
