Meet A Young Fallen Warrior Named Werner Fischer

I have gone through just a few of my items and came across young Werner Fischer. He was in Schutzen Rgt 101, which was the very early precursor to the Panzer Grenadiers. ObGfr Fischer saw very early action in Poland, Holland, Belgium, France, and Russia.

He gave his life for his Fatherland in early 1942 as the German Wehrmacht was trying to overcome the massive Soviet counter attacks that threw the Wehrmacht back from the very gates of Moscow. He had a younger brother who was also in the Wehrmacht, and hopefully survived. I could not find any of the names in Volksbund which I found odd.

ObGfr Fischer's family tries desperate to know the whereabouts of his grave, if he was found on the battlefield, and if they could have a photo. Since the area was lost to the enemy the OKW states it is not possible at this time to send a photo. This is just one of millions who gave their lives for what they believed in.

It appears he was awarded a flower medal, and there is an ebtry which I would like help on. It seems to say he was awarded the Panzerkampfabzeichen for 3 assaults under his battle page.

Just another story amongst so many who shared the same fate. Thanks for sharing here, he will be remembered in some small way. The letters from his parents must make for sad reading.

                awards

The only award listed is for the Sudeten medal. The days listed towards the PAB are only what he has been credited with, not the actual awarding of the badge.

Thanks Pauke, Ian had pointed that out too, I am pretty surprised he never received any other awards as he was in the thick of some heavy action. He belonged to schw shutzen rgt 101 that helped spearhead many assaults. I would think they would have given the pab to him since he fell.

This just shows that the Germans as a rule didn't just hand out these medals and badges like some claimed.
