Value of AFRIKA wehrpass and photos

    Hello,

I received a email this morning from a freind in germany offering to sell me a AFRIKA wehrpass, 32 photos, and 4 documents,i was curious what you guys think would be a fair price for this grouping,i will find out what specific units the man was in,the decription from the seller was the following, sorry for the desription my friend doenst speak english that well-

Wehrpass, Luftwaffe,(to read in his Wehrpass: he was in the
FlaKregiment and in africa. He was unteroffizier, and has the
awards: Einmarsch Österreich and Erinnerungsmedaille Feldzug in
Afrika, Ärmelband Afrika, KVK mit Schwertern, his figths,
    Poland,Belgien,Flandern, Duenkirchen, France,Sizilien (italy),
    afrika, Italy again )
32 very good photos, all discribed at the back,to see tank, damaged
bridges,Lybien, Bengasi, Tripolis, a few with postcardsize, to see
him with his Flak gun in tropical uniform, his Zeltlager in afrika, to
see with italien soldier,a Ferntrauung in Afrika (a wedding of a
soldier without his wife, she was at the same time in a office in
germany), death soldiers ,damaged airoplane, ital. Bombenflugzeug...

    1 document of warprision discharge

2 documents of his officers where they wrote about him that he was
in fighting also " Erdkampf in France and Afrika", i think he need
this for the award Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe

1 document from 1942, that he get in his Fronturlaub more to eat
because he is a africa fighter

the documents dont sound all that interesting,no award documents or anything,i know the value would depend on what FLAK units he was in in AFRIKA ,i only have 1 AFRIKA wehrpass in my collection and i got that for a ridiculous price because the seller didnt know it was for units in AFRIKA ,so i dont really have a idea of value,i havent seen a AFRIKA wehrpass for sale in a while so i have nothing to compare it with.any rough ideas on value for the wehrpass,32 pics and 4 documents?

    afrika

Hello, he is only flak so that reduces the desirability a little.
A soldbuch would also sell for more.

however the group of associated photos and extra documents is nice, and his awards are nice.
I would price this group at EURO200 circa.
I would not pay more than EURO250. I would not expect to get it for less than EURO 175.

If you are not interested let me know. I am keen to buy all AFRIKA paybooks.
nb. (if some of the photos are extra special then that would drive the price up. I mean shots of tanks, dead troops, allied POW's, German vehicles, postcards printed in Afrika etc. Anything other than desert scenes, town scenes, troops standing in the desert would increase the value of the photos.

ALWAYS seeking AFRIKA PAYBOOKS or PHOTOS !!!
also seeking LUFTWAFFE FELD DIVISION paybooks.

      Only Flak ???????

"Only flak" ! What the hell does that mean ? The guy was a serving member of the DAK, and a front liner as well. Just because he wasn't fallschirmjaeger, doesn't mean he has no value.!

I am getting increasingly concerned at the indifference shown by collectors these days as to the value of a human life. Its not just about the numeral value guys, these blokes were people too. I would be more than happy to receive photos of a veterans experience, no matter where or who he was. If it were not for the bakers, butchers, postmen, cooks etc, oh, and Flak personnel, then the precious Ramke members and those with Knights Crosses couldn't do what they did. If you have so many PERSONAL papers and photos of so many different personalities, then I suggest you take time out and get back to reality. THEY ARE/WERE ALL HUMAN BEINGS. Don't make the mistake of putting the value of YOUR collection onto the persona of those whom you seek to satisfy your collections from. They did not live/die just to gratify YOUR collection. I also have quite a few documents, its not my main field but I appreciate every single guy whose life is/was associated with each scrap of paper!
Lets get some respect about us.

End of rant. Sorry if I appear pissed off, but I am.

          Hello guys

lets not forget that 200 euro is 400 DM now the question will be would you buy that in germany a couple of years ago for 400 to 500DM.

i to have a very expenive soldbook and wehrpass, but we have to look how often you come across such things, i will not pay more then 200 euros for a DAK soldbook, now of course all depends on the photos, the photos can be valued between 3 euros to 25 euros a piece and more just depending what s on the picture. so it s very difficult to say how much for the all lot.

Okay Alex, but would you have payed 1400 DM for a Juncker Pilotsbadge or 500-600 DM for a cased Iron cross some years ago? Today you have to, if you´d liket to get these ones.

On the other hand - would you pay 30 Euro or more for a simple tank photo today? Today not, but 3 years ago you had to.

What I´d like to say is, that the prices in some items go up and in others they go down and that´s the same with a Wehrpass or a Soldbook.

It´s like everywhere - supply and demand set the price and at the moment there is a run on these ones. Maybe in 2 or 3 years, it will change again.

            Best wishes

yes it s trough i would not have paid the prices a couple of years ago, mostly not for photos, like you say you can get 30euro for a tank photo.

but i try to avoid to pay prices like this, i try not to buy at daelers places, but most likely to exchange items that im looking for with other collectors.

it also depends if you are just a id booklet collector that has specialized his collection in whpasses and solbooks, our if you are generaly collecting DAk, our more widly army units in general.

                Hello Alex,

the problem is, that the prices you have to pay if you buy items from private, become higher and higher.

I have an advertisment in the newspaper every week and there are 8 (!) other guys evry week in the same newspaper. Of course most of the people call everyone of these guys and with evrey call the price becomes higher.

It will become harder and harder to get anything from private purchase and IMO the prices will climb much higher in the next 2 years.

                Best wishes

                Joerg

yes i totally agree with you, the internet is actually our worth enemy and our best friend if you want.
even on flea markets people look at the net first and put items without a swastika in and get a great amount of cash for it.

and for the other items people look on dealers site and know what they can get.

but still 200euro for a dak wehrpass would be the maximum for me to pay.
maybe if he belonged to a tank unit, then i will pay more of course.

thanks for the opinions guys,it is a mute point now since i have decided to pass on this grouping and it went to the next person on the sellers "list".the seller wanted 300 euro plus 30 euro for shipping and paypal fees, this made it $435 and that was more than im willing to pay for this grouping.im not to worried im sure i will come across another DAK wehrpass, thats the second one ive been offered this year by private parties and i snagged the first one,we cant have them all!

And a few words for "AFRIKA". How sorry I am to have offended you when calling it a mere Flak paybook. I guess I should write a full apology to the family involved and then perhaps will my estate to the german war graves commission just to ease my conscience of being a selective wehrmacht militaria collector.
Get off your high-horse buddy and seperate analytical collecting with your emotions.
If someone offers you a wehrpass to a baker or a panzer commander, which one are you going to choose ????
They both may have died fighting for their country but as a collector we look at the collecting value of their roles. We dont all need to take a group hug, and pray for the fallen before purchasing an item of militaria !!
Also, if you place flak items in such high esteem, then send all your panzer and combat engineer items to me . I'm always happy to make trades like that.

OK, 300 EURO sound too expensive to me for a FLAK wehrpass.
I would definitely pass on this one.
I would possibly go near that if the battle entries in the wehrpass were of afrika actions. That is quite rare.
And 30 EURO for postage and paypal fees. That is a healthy sum. The European sellers really stick it to us folk who live outside of Europe. Many a time have I been quoted postage costs that are twice as much as fair dealers charge me from Europe. I think they use calculators with faulty keys when working out postage costs from Europe to the rest of the world !

for the posting cost, i must say if you want to send an item that is insured and the parcel weights less then 2 kilo, i think it will cost 49Euro to the USA from germany, it s very very expensive.

but lets go back to the whpass like stdub sayed the photos coming along can make the difference. it could be cheap if the photos agreat, and could be expansive if there is nothing special on.

but agian with the exchange and shipping costs i agree, it might be expansive for our collector friends out of Europe.

                          regards to all
