    Hoping for help on WP entry

    Hi all !

    I have asked this in part, but got no response, so I would like to rephrase
    my question seperately and extend it a bit :

    I am looking for help with a good translation for the German military terms :
    a) Bekleidungskammer
    resp.
    b) Bekleidungs-Unteroffizier

    What would be the corresponding term in the British or American army ?!

    I think the tasks should be similar in all armies (and perhaps changed
    not too much over the last 2000 years, see proof below !)
    Any help is appreciated !

    Bekleidungskammer, were used for uniform storage, among other things. Soldiers would get the required document and go to the Bekleidungskammer to get what they needed. Soldiers in the rank of Unteroffizier were normally assigned to run them.

    During WWII the rank and duties would have been similar to the equivalent of a Quartermaster Sergeant in the US Quartermaster Corps-QM. For the UK it would have been a Sergeant in the old Royal Army Service Corps-RASC.

        Many thanks for the detailed answer and clarifying the corresponding ranks .
        Very interesting !

        Would you (or anybody) know, whether there is an english designation for such a Sergeant
        (and maybe also for the depot he is runing ?!)
        [As I am a native German speaker, which I forgot to mention, sorry ]

          bekleidungs uffz would be a clothing orderly or nco

            In the British Army the term for a sergeant doing this job would be Quartermaster Sergeant (QMS). However, the actual term used depends on the level - so a CQMS is a Company Quartermaster Sergeant, an RQMS is a Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant (battalion in British Army).

            In the British Army these are\were not RASC\RCT\RAOC\RLC personnel but from the parent regiment - so in the Parachute Regiment the CQMS would be an experienced Parachute Regiment SNCO.

              Many thanks for providing the translations I am looking for !

              Also thanks for the additional info, on the different levels of the QMS and also the slight
              dependence on the type of unit by Gary.
              Also the link is extremely helpful , covers a lot of interesting additional information !
              (And also the related links on that page).

              Maybe I can ask one final question for clarification :
              So, the CQMS at company level was the head of everything that was related to equipment
              (clothing, spades, water bottles etc.) and in addition to anything weapon related of the co. ?!

              I'm asking that, because from my military service (80's, Bundeswehr), I remember that
              the Waffenkammer (armoury) was located in our company while the clothing/equipment store
              was at a much higher level (StoV, Standort Verwaltung, for all units in Augustdorf).

              Anyway, thanks for all contributions, I learned a lot !
