    Soldbuch to a Panzerjäger NCO

Here we go again with this nice Soldbuch to a guy who rise till the rank of Oberfeldwebel.

No denazified, but reinforced with tape and also someone (the family or himself) try to take the photo away so only half rest, but for me is enough.

His Soldbuch was open on August 27th, 1.939 and his unit was 3./Panzer Abwehr Abteilung 215, 215 I.D. who was created the day before mainly from reserve personal as our soldier who was a Gefreiter d.R. at this time.

Look that the clerk made a mistake and named the unit Panzer Abwehr Kompanie 215.

He, with all his unit, was transferred to the 198 I.D. when his company was renamed 2./Panzerjäger Abteilung 235 on November 26th, 1.940 (other sources give that date as December 5th, 1.940) and stayed with it during the brief period it changes name and back to the formal, but this time with the 1 kompanie (maybe the one of this Abteilung formed with Sturmgeschützes).

He was a brave one and committed to duty and his array of medal are here to proof it.

First two to reward his time in France in 1.940, a short time but enough for him to being awarded a medal for bravery and to be wounded.

215 I.D. take part into the French campaign at the very last moment as he attacked the Maginot Line just on June 19th and after only 2 days of combat all was finished and the cost of this was 31 dead and 108 wounded including our brave man who received the EK II and the WBiB for this short time at the fight. Interesting is that he received the WBiB on June 26th when the fight was over on 21st, but he entered the hospital on the 30th, a second wound? complication with the first? who knows but the authority of the award comes from his unit and not from a doctor, I am open to any theory.

After this was time to visit the East and there he also behavior well and he received the EK I, the GAB and the Ostmedaille, to prove valour, service and frozen time.

He was, as the rest of the unit, withdrew from the Eastern Front after Cherkassy and take some time in Rumania, May and June 1.944, prior going back in July 1.944 to southern France where he has a serious disappointment with some nasty americans who want to take the same place he was while serving with the 19 Armee. He tried to solve this during the Battle for Montélinar between August 20 and 29th, 1.944 and was during this time he was wounded again. We don't know it it was his third wound or a serious one but it was rewarded with the WBiS.

He was also involved in heavy and close combat an to prove so he received credit for 12 close combat days, three short of the Nahkampfspange, but I am suspicious that he was fully qualified for it, but end of war and paperwork lost prevent him for wearing this medal.

One think I see is that he maintain his Feldpostnummer when transition of units take place, is this normal?

After he was declared fit for duty the last info I have from him is that he was in charge of a troop of 3 Unteroffiziers and 11 soldiers.

Please can anyone tell me what this little paper means?

                Thanks a lot

Nice book to a genuine Frontsoldat

His wound in France was "rechter Oberschenkel-Durchschuss" shot through the right upper thigh.

The little paper is a redesigned leave or service travel document developed in late 1944.
In this case it is a "service" travel allowing your man, who is in charge of 15 men traveling together from Pz Ers. Abt 7 to the city of Gebrazhofen.

Thanks naxos for you appreciation and, as always, thanks Ian and Jeff for your help.

It looks like he never use another Feldpostnummer.

He was used a signal pistol.

Also his last leave on 1.943 was till January 24th, 1.944, interesting as the same day started the operation by the Red Army to encircled of the Armee Group Sud in the Korsun-Cherkassy pocket completed 4 days later, I wonder if he was able to reunite his unit or ended in a Kampfgruppe or attached to another unit.

At least he enjoyed a Führergeschents on his travel.

Now how about a little research into his hospital page and some answer that, maybe, someone can answer for me.

We know that his entire French campaign goes from June 19th tiles June 21st 1.940 and during this time he was wounded as proved via his award of the Wound Badge in black on June 26th.

Here goes the first mystery, he was wounded in one of the three posible combat days as on 22nd was signed the Armistice, he was awarded the WBiB on 26, but he entered the hospital on 30th, a second wound? a complication of the first? and is not a doctor who must give the onto award a wound badge?

Later he spent a couple of days in the hospital due problems with his joints of bones, not so severe as he was out so quick.

But them those awful americans ruined again his health and he suffered a wound around August 23rd and was interned in Chalons, I think he was evacuated quick with the rest of the 19 Armee and no time to notate it but he arrived to an Hospital in Wiesbaden on 28th and then changing till he was declared fit for service on March 31st, 1.945.

Here the second quest, he was not amputated and we only see two wounds during his career, but he received the Wound Badge in silver on September 29th, 1.944. Was he wounded and not notated in his Soldbuch? was the second one severe enough to deserve the silver grade? open to opinions.
