Soldbuch with great CCC Photo G.R.260 / G.R.320 !

Hi Guys !

I want to present you shortly this Soldbuch for Leutnant ((1.9.44) Herbert Schmidt which obviously once suffered from Humidity, which affected the first Pages.
It came with approx 200 Pictures from the Guy, taken mostly 41-43 with the G.R.260 (113.I.D.) in Russia.
The Photo makes it IMO quite desirable.

Now the most important Pages for most Collectors...

I was first not 100% convinced by both Entries from March 1945 (Close Combat Clasp in Silber and E.K.1). Wrong Place, and without their own Signatures and Stamps....and with "only" 28 CC Days.

After careful Examination with my most powerful Magnifier.... I have changed my Point of view... The Writing in Suetterlin seems quite convincing to me, as an old Paperstuff Collector.... 2 different Writings, to different Pencils and Ink, two interesting Entry - not easy to decipher without Magnifier - "Kampfgr.212.V.G.D."

Note also on the very back of the Page (just under the SWB-Stamp Entry), an interesting Mention, one more time extremely difficult to deceipher "Kampfgruppe "Saulen", not sureat all about the Name.... The first Letter is a "S", and the 3 last are "..LEN", "LAN" or "LON"... Maybe a 212.ID/VGD Specialist may held (there is at Least one in NL ). THis is an important Point, because considering the pages 12-13, note sure he saw any Action after January 5th 1945....

I agree with you, the CCC entries followed by the WB in silver are authentic.
The CCC silver award with less than 30 days is not that uncommon, I have one with 26 days, don't forget the time served on the front was calculated into the award.

The "Kampfgruppe S...." is interesting, could you post a lager scan of the entry?

I also read it as "Simon" and came here to make that comment, but Naxos beat me to it.

Really nice group, Lionel. What's particularly nice is that even though the Soldbuch is a Zweitschrift, the clerk who created it must have had the previous Soldbuch to hand when he copied in the old entries.

Interesting that they squeezed in the entries for the Nahkampfspange II and EKI in between older entries. Normally they add an extra page. To answer Jason, they usually have the old Soldbuch in hand to make a Zweitschrift, because there are exact procedures on how and what to enter.

Kampfgruppe "Simon" seems to be a reference to the XIII. SS-Armeekorps of which SS-Gruppenführer Max Simon was the commanding officer since October 1944.

In April 1945 the 212. Volks-Grenadier-Division became part of the XIII. SS-Armeekorps
