    Thoughts on rare LW soldbuch

    http://militariarelics.com/german/do...-wehrpass/4306

Do you guys think the entry for the LW tank badge looks ok? Appears to be a hyper rare LW soldbuch.

The correct stamp with FPN: L52938 was used. LW tank badge entry appears to be original.

Odd is the double award of Erdkampfabzeichen and Panzerkampfabzeichen d.L. on the same day. One should cancel out the other and not both awarded, at least not on the same day.

Also, the awards must be for actions that occurred before March 30, 1945 since he was in a field hospital until April 6, 1945 with a disease affecting the airways - that is "disease" not an injury or a wound.

Both Iron Crosses on the same day is unusual but it occasional occurred.

Interesting Soldbuch with lots of oddities

Security entry for 1 Dez 43 is stamped 3 times?

Agree, it does appear convincing. Unfortunate as this would have given his later-war units.

After a very quiet war he certainly made up for it in early '45. I would guess the double EK award and early promotion to feldwebel are all connected and that he distinguished himself at a very high level to deserve such recognition.

Why would someone in a Pioneer unit receive the Panzerkampfabz. d. LW?

Good point. I don't believe that Pioneers were listed as those eligible for the award.

I believe he was a panzer pioneer and as such would be eligible for it. Can someone confirm?

No - Pazerkampfabzeichen were awarded for having taken part in assaults as a crew member of an armored vehicle.

                  Correct, as from the order:

                  a. Tank commanders, gunners, drivers and radiomen for a minimum of three combat engagements on three separate days.

                  b. Tank repair crews providing they were in the front lines and engaged by the enemy on three occasions on three separate days.

                  c. Medical personnel attached to armored units which were engaged on three occasions on three separate days.

                  d. Panzergrenadier formations which manned front line positions and were engaged in three actions on three seperate days.

                  e. Medical personnel assigned to Panzergrenadier units engaged in three actions on three seperate days.

                  f. Armored reconnaissance units which were engagedd in three seperate actions on three seperate days.

Very good. Can we speculate then as to how he came to be awarded it?

The Panzergrenadiers, the recon units and both of their medical personnel would have been awarded the Panzerkampfabzeichen in bronze(black for Luftwaffe). I'm guessing that the HG Pz Pio Batl had armoured vehicles. Could the Panzerkampfabzeichen in bronze/black have been awarded to any armoured unit soldier as long as the criteria was met?

Also, the HG Pz Pio Batl does seem to have been heavily involved around the time he was awarded the two EKs. This Gefreiter was awarded the Knights Cross on 23.2.1945.

                      31. Rademann, Emil 23.02.1945 Gefreiter Gruppenführer im Fsch-Pz.Pi.Btl 1 „HG“

Two of Fsch-Pz.Pi.Btl HG companies were equipped with halftracks in late '44 at least according to Nafziger.

Last question. How rare would it be to find a surviving lw soldbuch with that entry? The price is high so it must be very rare.

                            ..

It's certainly not a common entry but the price seems a bit on the high side.

I have a Soldbuch that has the same award entry to a LW soldier who served with Sta/ Fallschirm Panzer Aufklärungs Abteilung Hermann Göring. If memory serves I paid around 2000 Euro but that was a few years back and it came with additional documents and his dog tag.
