    Ausweis

    Hello all

Recently acquired this Ausweis pieceof 1942, belonging to a Anton Kunnert together with a few letters that were written to him.
He was part of the Luftwaffe, can't read stamp properly and after some research I found out that he died on the 7th of April 1945 with the rank of Oberjager.
Does anybody have info of a paratrooper unit fighting around that time ?

    Thanks

    Herr

Thanks Simon, that's what I found out too.

Was a bit of a shock to stare at the mans headshot on the Ausweis knowing he died 3 years later...

Did they carry their ausweis on them all the time ?

They were carried in lieu of the Soldbuch as the Soldbuch could not be carried in the air. All flying personal carried them including paratroopers, pilots, air gunners, observers, flight mechanics etc.etc.

Sounds like he could well be a para....

          Here's a few of mine:

            To Simon

Doesn't work, the photo is JPG, 40 kb and when I click on the attachment it says invalid attachment.

            To Ian

I see, thanks for that, the stamp on his Ausweis reads : FliegerhorBtkommandantur Diepholz 20.4.42

His collarpatches on the pic appears to be a dark colour.

Is there a way to track his unit etc through his Ausweis number ?

            Thanks

Hey Ian, just saw your Ausweises, cool, never actually saw one before until someone offered it to me.

I also have Anton's letters to himbut I cannot read that handwriting, maybe that would be the way to find out ...

Any chance of a larger scan?

Interestingly his rank is Unteroffizier and it appears only to have been validated for 1942!?

He could still have been a para with the rank of Unteroffizier.... I have a Soldbuch to a member of Fj.Rgt. 3 from 1940, 1944 he was promoted to Uffz. rather than Oberjäg., however when I quizzed him over this he had no explanation why this was....he was actually a Pioniere so whether or not that had anything to do with it!?!?!?

I can not find any connection between Diepholz and any para units though!!! Maybe he was aircrew and became a late war para replacement, hence the rank/name change!?!?!

                  /Ian

Also interesting his rank is Unteroffizier however they chose to use a photo of him as a Flieger! Aren't those collar patches a bit dark to be aircrew/para?

Regarding Diepholz, all I can find that was there is Luftflotten-Nachrichten-Schule 2 and Flugplatz-Kommando 24/XI. No doubt there were flying units there during 1942.........

Here is a link (in German!) about Fliegerhorst Diepholz. http://www.gfs.diepholz.de/archiv/li.../di5/index.htm

                        Hello Ian

Yes I was wondering that aswell about his collarpatches, look to be darkgreen or some darkcolour.
He might have been a pilot in training ?
Did they get issued new Ausweises alot ?

Thanks for all your help Ian !
