I agree it is possible. Usually most Soldbucher include the scope number, etc as well. But then, those Soldbucher are usually '44 dated when the sniper schools were in full operation. At least in my experience in owning and handling several. However, with the rifle being issued in 1942, we have to view it differently, IMO.

I think its a 2 with part of the bottom line missing. That's why it looks like a full stop at the end which wouldn't make sense.
