Something you don't see everyday! Pionier-Steuermannsschein

Here is an uncommon license the Pionier-Steuermannsschein (Engineer Helmsman License).
Here are two examples, both with uniform photos.

No. 1 is entitled Helmsman license for motorised vessels
No. 2 the Engineer Helmsman license

No. 1 simply mentions a class 1 license.
Where No.2 mentions the actual type of craft for Class 1b, a Sturmboot 39.
Also Binnenfahrt which I believe is fresh water or something to do with type of water he can travel over...depth?

Gefreiter Hedwig in uniform wearing awards and qualifications, a Sturmboot 39 in action and a Steuermann Abzeichen.

I only have the one (I think). It has no photo unfortunatley but given the late issue of it perhaps that is no surprise.

I also have his wehrpass (2nd issue), award documents and assorted paperwork.

      The man himself:

His units. As can be seen his combat unit was Pionier-Batallion 176, part of 76. Infanteriedivision. This unit was destroyed at Stalingrad.

His awards. The EK1 was awarded on 6th December and he was wounded for the 3rd time on the 24th November 1942 i.e. when the division was already surrounded in the Stalingrad pocket. He must have been flown out sharpish as his soldbuch records him arriving at Res. Laz. Burgsteinfurt on 9th December 1942. The wound was a shell splinter to his left thigh. It kept him in hospital until September 1943.

        Confirmation of his Sturmboot training.
