Soldbuch - Grenadier

Hi everyone,

I have had this book in my collection for years and never got around to researching it. It's unit entries are unique and I can't read the EK2 entry very well.

I can see he was with Gren Ers Batl 487, but what is interesting is on the units page, the entry of "48 Inf Div" and an illegible entry below.

Can anyone help me with his units and what the award entry says? I'm curious where he was when he earned the EK2.

Under the E.K. 2 entry it simply states a stamp was not on hand to make it official and so it was signed by the officer to certify this. The entry on p. 14 states that he crossed over to the west bank of the Elbe River on command from the XII Army on 6 May 1945.

The same Oberlt. and Regt. Adjutant who signed his E.K.2 entry also signed his promotion to Feldwebel on 1 May 1945. The regimental name seems to be Gren. Regt. H.K.1 which I cannot decipher.

Thanks Pauke for the help.

And thank you Boris. That is VERY helpful. No way I would have found that on my own.

So my guess is that this was an adhoc group scabbed together at the end of the war. The ending of this group makes sense based on the entry order to cross the river and surrender to the Americans.

Has anyone ever seen an Inf Div entry like this one? We always see regiments, brigades, companies, etc, but I haven't seen a division entry. Can anyone shed light on that aspect?

no problem. But there is no division entry. Sorry.

On page 14 the entry is from the Leutnant and Kp-Chef.

The division name Theodor Körner is also the name of the regiments. The numbers are 1, 2 and 3. And in the first regiment he was in the second company.

Thats all.

I think too that the background of the order is to survive in the arms of the west allies or to die in the soviet gulags. At this time goes a story around that germans and americans will fight together against the communists. But it was at this time only a story.
