On page 22 of his Soldbuch is, Ehrenkreuz f. Kriegsteilnehmer. According to his Militärpass, he was in training and never made it to combat during WWI.

Mr Josef Schmucker was born on 2nd of July 1900 and was called up on 22.06.1918 to serve with various infantry replacement units till 09.12.1918. He never saw frontline service, but was stationed in France for training from 25.09.1918 till 12.11.1918. Somewhere in 1934/35 he was awarded the Ehrenkreuz für Kriegsteilnehmer for his WWI service.
In April 1943 he was again called up, to serve with various Luftwaffe ground units, like pilot training schools, ammunition depots ect. (page 4 of the SB). He was promoted to Gefreiter (01.06.1943) and Obergefreiter (01.12.1944).

The Arbeitsbuch belongs to Fridolin Steinbach, born 19.10.1914 in Gissigheim, Kreis (County)

Tauberbischofsheim, Baden. It is a certificate that he is a baker assistent (journeyman baker),

issued by the Baker's Guild Boxberg area.

Special leave because of endangerment of the civilc existence. It could be a bomb damage at

his home.
