and thanks to the Naxos identification I have found other news about this nice officer and this unit in Italy.......
Berlin decide to former the 115th, with more old member of the Aufklärungs Abteilung 33 surrended in Tunisia.
And one of them was just the Rittmeister Freiherr Von Gienanth, who along two other battalion officer, had been ferried out of Tunis the day of capitulation, in a assault boat on order of general Von Vaest.
And from the correspondence of Freiherr Von Gienanth (from German Reconnoissance in action in WWII of D.Robert / J. Edwards) we have some interesting notice on his new battalion:
“on 5th October 1943, we finnaly say on paper that Panzer Aufklärungs Abteilung 115 was be former using “formers Africans”.
On 9th October 1943 the battalion was moved by rail from Berlin-Grunewald station to the Camp Senne Training Area.
The armoured car and other vehicles arrived on 22th October (and was the day that Chrisitan was assigned to the new 115th).
Rittmeister Freiherr Von Gienanth travelled on Italian Theater on 10th November 1943 in an effort to get a feel for the area of operation form Oberleutnant Von Gaudereck, who was already there. On 16th November the new cadre and vehicles of the 115th was loaded on train s for transport in Italy.
On 22th November the train was off-loaded in Rome. The battalion personnel they moved by road march in the direction of Naples, as far as the area around the front of Cassino. The armoured car company designated as the headquarters company, billeted at San Giovanni, the centre of his operation area between Monte Cassino and the Liri RiverAttached Files
