Totenkopf ID opinion please

Hi,

I'm considering buying this tag:



Massive doubts arise as the markings are embossed rather than stamped. Is this genuine?, I struggle to grasp how they would produce them like this?

And if so was it from an SS Totenkopf soldier?

Heh!
It's not the way the tag was made should rise your concern ( this is actually absolutely correct in case of some of German IIWW tags). What should concern is actually that none of regimental size unit had 56 coys.

But ID's are a mystery to me, I just want one towards a small general SS collection.

What do you mean by there weren't 56coys in the division?

What do the numbers and letters mean? I would read it as being a 14th SS tag, I.e. Galicia. But the dealer says it's Totenkopf.

The way the elm are usually stamped means that 56 would imply the 56th kompanie, which of cousrse is crazy. The siegrunes are also crazy. It's s poor copy of the real thing.
