Hello Every One,
This might be TMI, too much information, but I was noticing that one of the pages says something about the Waffen SS, (post 4 on the bottom) I have never got the hang of reading these, can some one help me out, was this guy an average soldier or what.

He did a short stint with a Divisional Communications detachment during the French campaign but then released from service. Later (7.44) he was accepted as a volunteer into the Waffen SS. However, there is no indication in the Wehrpass, that he followed through.

He had the SA Sports Badge and was a driver of cars and truck.
He was in the Army with the Signals Battalion of 223 Infanterie Division as occupying troops in Poland, advance through Belgium and the campaign in France. Then as occupying troops in north-west Frence and then on the Channel and Atlantic coast.
Discharged as an Obergefreiter on 25.10.1940. Accepted as a volunteer for the Waffen SS 3.7.1944...no indication that he joined the SS though.

He was not an Obergefreiter, but only Oberfunker (=Oberschütze). I wonder why he volunteered for the WSS so late in the war and then wasn´t called up?!?!Comment
