I have a soldbuch to an enlisted pilot whose unit from 4.5.40 is listed simply as "Feldpost Nr. 34724" . The book lists 34724 as belonging to Aufklarungs Gruppe (H) 156. But it also states that it was stricken from the rolls between the period of 28.4.1940 and 19.9.1940 ( and it was latter reassigned to a Feldlazarett )
So, the question is, what does this mean? Why is this guy assigned a Feldpost Nummer as a unit, and why is it one that is obsolete?
According to the Mitgemachte Gefechte, he was involved in "Absetzen von Infanterie" ( Absetzen usually refers to the droping of paratroopers ) Belgium 10.5.40. You can see he also was awarded the EK II on 10.5.40
( the soldbuch lists the date as 12.5.40 and is also stamped with the same Feldpost Nr. 34724 )
The stamps you see on this page ( L 20151 ) are from 1 staffel Kampfgruppe z.b.V 102 ( the unit he was with for the Cornith Operation )
Do to the secrecy surrounding the Belgium raids, is there a chance they could have temporarily assigned these special purpose units ( z.b.V. )obsolete feldpost numbers. I just cannot think of another reason for this.
Any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks
Eric
