I really like to precisely, in Sütterlin-written Lebenslauf. Ross was a HJ-Standortbeauftragter and was awarded the HJ Leistungsabzeichen und Schießauszeichnung and then began civil life und being called up on 15. December 1942.

Amongst other posting were his detail with the 3. Vorpostenflotille / Vorpostenboot 302 "Bremen". (408 BRT called into service 20.9.39.

Then briefly at the gunnery school - Schiffsartillerieschule where he trained Schiffskanonen and also the appropriated "polnische Beutekanone M. 97" where he ended the course with just "ok" genugend results.

He later returned to the 2. Vorpostflottille and ended the war with this unit which served briefly in the channel and in the Baltic.

Ross was awarded both the Kriegsabzeichen für Minensuch-U Bootsjadg und Sicherungsverbände on 5.4. 1944 and the Marinefrontspange on 14.5 (!) 1945.

Talk about a nice find....not as "glamorous" as awards & their documents, but a treasure trove of more precise information! Great catch!

The name of the Vorpostenboot 302 was "VP 302 Bremen" belonging to the 3. Vorpostenflotille (Ostsee).

Commander of the 3. Vorpostenflotille was KKpt. Gottfried Böttger.

The Führungsbuch is really under appreciated. I suppose it is because only the Kriegsmarine used them.
