I have a D.K.i.G. group to a guy in the same regt.


They did Poland, Were the first to reach the channel during the invasion of france, Fought in Serbia and Greece, were the regt that made it into the suburbs of Moscow, fought in Normandy, made a bigger advance than the SS panzer divisions at Mortain during the counter offensive, were wiped out at Falaise, reformed for the Bulge where they once again advanced further than any of the SS Divisions.

U.S. Military intel rated the 2 Panzer division to be THE best of the panzer divisions. They always seemed to be first or furtherest and were everywhere.

well, my guy was in from 38-45, wounded 3-4 times, had the D.K.i.G., lifesaving medal, CCBTiB... survived the war... and died in the 50s when he fell from a scaffolding.... while working in a brewery..... !

Not forgetting that they never came up against most of the Heer divisions - 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 23, 24 etc

Most of them would have given a good account of themselves. Certainly they were the equal or better than the much lauded Waffen SS divisions.
