    Close combat award entries

    Hi all.

I have been purchasing quiet a few wehrstammbuchs and passes of late and have been luck enough to get 7 recently with the CCCiB award mentioned. However, I have noted that in addition to their other awards, all but 1 of them has only earned the EK2 and not the EK1 which one would expect for 15 days close combat fighting.

Is this a common occurancy as 2 others I have seen for sale (and missed) also only had the EK2 award mentioned?

    I await your input.

The EK I is not recommended to have with the CCCiB unlike say an EK II for a one time wounding that earns a Silver Wound Badge or the DKiG with earning the CCCiG

Jeff is right. There is no definite rule in this Matter. L.

For example I have an estate of a Rottenführer of division "Totenkopf" with assault badge, wound badge in black and CCC in bronze. At the end of the war he had 21 close-combat days, but never got an Iron Cross...

        Kind regards, Peter

There was a Führerbefehl, that when a soldier had earned the CCC in silver, he should automatically also be decorated with the EK1. This was not always followed though.
CCC in gold = German cross in gold.
This after a award ceremony for the CCC in gold, as Hitler became aware of, that a soldier he was about to decorate with the CCC in gold had only been awarded the EK2. He (A.H.) thought that it was impossible to participate in that many close combats without showing bravery enough for something higher than EK2.

            Interesting old thread

Here is a very young Gefreiter with CCCib and not even an iron cross second class.

Very nice photo, Naxos! Nothing uncommon with that combination though. If you had a really hard (perhaps even vicious!) superior officer, you could break your neck without even be recommended for an Iron cross, I guess. Assaults, close bombat days, wounds etc. were pure facts. Don´t know if the company commander even had to be involved in that counting.
One can think that as the CCC in silver automatically should result in an IC 1, the clasp in bronce would automatically lead to an IC 2, but I have never heard of that from a reliable source.

Most of my CCC Soldbuchs have EK2 awards. I don't even see much of a correlation between EK1, EK2, CCC and Frontzulage entries.

he could just participate and defend himself .. would not be anything special as not everyone was willing to do anything above his own surviving.
