This small lot has it is not exactly of a soldier "behind the lines", indeed even seriously injured by an artillery splinter above Naples but of a "funker" of the of an important command, that of General Traugott Herr HQ, with many prestigious commands in Italy ( LXXVI Panzerkorps, then 14 army and 10 Army).
It is a lot that has many ideas and material but I wanted to focus precisely on Herr and his commands in Italy, especially after September 1944.
Quickly: Karl Ewald, born in 1921, Hitlerjugen and sports activity, civil technical training in transmissions and arrives in Italy in summer 1943 in a small but very important unit: the Korps Nachrichten-Abteilung 476, then Korps Panzer Nachrichten-Abteilung 476 the signal soldiers of the LXXVI HQ. The LXXVI Panzerkorps in addition to this Nachtichten unit (two companies about 100 men), had a company of motorists and drivers amd motorcyclist and an officer divisional artillery command (ARKO, artillery observers)Comment

I start from Tuscany in chronological order more or less from June to September 1944.
The first traces of Herr and his command are found near Cortona in Bagnolo (Villa Assunta) and above all, also in Cortona, in Villa di Piazzano, which has now been transformed into a luxury hotel … and then a little further north to Arezzo in Villa Santa Maria in San Giovanni Valdarno…. in order from above….Comment

A very fast stop in Forli waiting to find a more backward accommodation, in Villafranca precisely for a few weeks the place of the LXVII Pz. Korps after the taking of Rimini, and as always in a strategic point, between Forli and Faenza close to via Emilia . A manor house, after the "lease" of the German command of Herr, also used by the British and Canadians and finally from 1967 until the 1980s as a school and now in disuse.
Equally fast and with few traces and little documented is the "stop" in Conselice, always for a short time until November 1944 more ... it should be Villa Todeschi or De Marches Péval of which I found an old photo.Comment

It is unpronounceable for a German, we are exactly 10 km under the main command of Sabbioncello San Vittore but under the Po di Volano. The splendid Villa Massari with its beautiful theater.
