Wehrpass german Cross in Gold 1st Cossack Division !

Hi Guys. I get last Week directly from a Family Member an IMO most interesting WP.
E.v.B. was of noble decent and he engaged - of Course - in a Cavalry Rgt in 1938 at the age of 18 (Kav.Rgt.15 in Paderborn). Until 1944, he mostly served in "Aufklärungs-Abteilungen" (most of this reconoissance Units were created upon Cav.Rgt's). He was 5 times WIA + Frostbite 2nd grade during the terrific Winter 41-42. After recovering of his last Wound (Wangedurchschuss + Schultersteckschuss), he was transferred to the 2nd.Btl/ SIBIRISCHES-KOSAKEN-REITER-RGT.2, part of the 1.Cossak Division and led the 7th Schwadron. This Unit was created only few Days before (1943, Aug.25th).
This Unit was heavily engaged against Croatian Resistance. In dec.1944, the survivors were incorporated to the Waffen-SS. But Eberhard never saw that. </P><p><img src="http://cdn04.trixum.de/upload2/3/0/30Z4iXLanKVH143042827554P1683.jpg"></p>

On May 29th 1944, the 23 Years old first-lieutenant was heavily wounded in CERNENICA (Kroatien) and passed away the day after. This Entry is signed by Lieutenant-Colonel Heimert Freiherr von NOLCKEN, Regimental Chief (German Cros 1944, August 25th). E.v.B. was postumously promoted to Rittmeister (captain) </P><p><img src="http://cdn03.trixum.de/upload2/8/F/8FpkiRuBezbS143042921082P1683.jpg"></p>

I hope you like it !!

        I have some questions :

        1) What is this "kleine Silberne Tapferkeitsmedaille" ??
        2) Has anybody some details about the fightings of this Siberian Cossak Unit in Croatia ?? (especially on the Day were E.v.B. has been killed).
        3) What were the specific cloth insignias (Armschild and so on...) worn in this Unit ?
        4) Do you know a place where I could find pics from this Unit on the Internet, or a Book I could purchase to improve my Knowledge about this Regiment, and the 1st Cossak-Div. in general ??

All other comments are of course welcome ! Thanks. Lionel.

              Lionel,

Very interesting Wehrpaß!! I have a couple of Soldbücher to members of the 1 Kosaken Division....one from the same Rgt!

This is a good book on Cossack units.:

              http://www.amazon.com/Uniformen-Abze.../dp/3931533425

Attached is the Sibirisches Kosaken-Regiment 2 Kreuz.

They were also entitled to wear a trouser stripe and an arm badge....the latter I forget which one it is at the moment!
              /Ian

Here's a photo I have just found on a site which appears to be from Jim's collection (PzV).

Oberst Heimert Freiherr von Nolcken (Ernst Gustav Heimert Nolcken) Kommandeur Ural-Kosaken-Reiter-Regiment 2 wearing the Order of the Crown of King Zvonimir 1st Class with Oakleaves and Star also the Regimental Cross of the Siberian Cossack Cavalry Regiment 2.

You can clearly see the army badge of the unit as well!!

Edit: Just found the original thread... http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=291659

Wow Ian..... Thanks ! That is already much more as expected !! These are just stunning Pics from PzV Collection !! I will order the Book you've indicated, and I remember there is also one from "Heimdal" published in french which published a lot of "ECPA" Pics in an awesome definition-Quality.
I am normally not collecting these arm insignias, most mint and never worn, but I will try to get one as worn by v.Nocken on the Pic, if I am not mistaking they are not that expensive, and it could be a nice addition to the WP. Thank you very much Ian my Friend for this real cool Contribution !

Yes, indeed. The two Pics supplied by Ian makes it interesting ! Concerning the Infos Ian provides, these are those contained in the "Tessin"..... but with a accurate translation from Ian.... Thanks Ian.
In my WP, it was an original Pic, the burial from the Oblt for sure.... the quality is not the best.....After careful examination, it seems that several german Officers are wearing an arminsignia, probably the one from the Siberian Cossacks. Leading the Convoy, the Oberst shows a neck Award wihich could be the same as the one worn by von Nolcken and at least one other foreign Order on the Breast-Pocket... Who could be this Officer leading the Convoy ?? Perhaps Obstlt Ha,ns-Joachim von Schultz, Ia from the 1st Cossak-Div. But S. was awarded the DK on March 22th 45..... and it seems this Guy already wear the GCIG..... </P><p><img src="http://cdn04.trixum.de/upload2/p/E/pEzBRaTXoPgh143049605096P1683.jpg"></p>
