thanks jef i was a little unsure my self as you can see in the box he was a 15 then a 13and what rank would he be

He would have been an Unterfeldwebel, which one doesn't see often but then this is the Kriegsmarine! 12 would be a Feldwebel. When you became a officer candidate, you were usually payed as a senior sergeant until commissioned!
