Hi all,
I want to show you this little lot of a Soldier of the 735. Grenadier-Regiment.
Released on the 17.9.1940 by the 1./Land. Schuetz. Ers. Batl. 5.
Soldier Martin Eisebraun, born in 23.04.1908 in Winterbach. He was a ''Bahnarbeiter'' -railway worker-.
In 19.05.1941 he was transferred to the Infanterie-Regiment 735 of the 715. Infanterie-Division. In the period from 1941 till end 1943 he was stationed in south France.
In Februar 1944 the Division was transferred to Italy after the Allied landings at Nettuno / Anzio. Here had Martin his baptism of fire.
The german troops organized on the 16.02 a counterattack (Operation ''Fischfang'')
The units designed to this Operation: Elements of 4. FJ-Division, 65. Infanterie Divisions under I. Fallschirmkorps, 3. Panzer Grenadier Division, 114. Jaeger Division, 715. Infanterie Division and elements of the Hermann Goering under the command of LXXVI Panzer Corps, supported by two battalions of heavy tanks Tiger and Panther.
16.02 began Operation Fischfang. The fighting raged for three days. On February 19, the Allied troops were rejected on initial bridgehead.
On February 19, The German troops were exhausted by three days of heavy fighting and were unable to continue the offensive, other side the Allies organized the counterattack.
Martin fought in Aprilia, Cisterna, Sabotino.
He was awardad with the VWA in Schwarz and the EKII in April.
The last entry in the SB is the 11.1.1944 (a new K98). There are not listed the two awards and the Page of hospitalizations is empty.
I suppose that Martin was taken POW in end April or May 1944.
What do you think?
Why the are isn't a hospitalization for the wound? Maybe a light wound?
