Hi everyone,
I'd like to show you the latest addition to my collection. It's a Personalausweis to a Marinehelferin, together with some photos of her and her friends.
The Ausweis is a Zweitschrift (second issue) and was issued on 22 November 1943 to a then 22 year old woman called Käthe Ernst.
Her military career in the German navy started on 20.2.1943. She received training as a Marinehelferin in Leer. After basic training she was stationed with the 15. Vorpostenflottille in Le Havre, France., where she stayed from 12.3.1943 till 29.9.1943.
After that she went to a reserve unit in Wilhelmshaven and from 9.12.1943 till 13.1.1944 she was stationed in Cuxhafen.
Then she returned to Leer.
On 14.2.1944 she was transferred to the 10. Schiffsstammabteilung in Assen, the Netherlands. On 7.9.1944 she left the unit and stayed in the city of Groningen for three days.
From 10.9.1944 till 8.4.1945 she was stationed in the town of Appingedam, near Delfzijl, with the 9. Marine Ersatz Abteilung.
This unit was under command of the Hafenkommandant Delfzijl.
When the frontline came very close, she fled to the small island of Amrum, Germany. There she survived the end of the war. Käthe Ernst was released from military service on 1.7.1945.
