Be careful ! Fake "Charlemagne" Erkennungsmarke on HH69 !

    Hi,

just to give a warning to the people with too much money (but usually low knowledge of what they are buying) : the lot 9613 of HH69 is OF COURSE a fake "Charlemagne" dog tag [sale : December 10, 2014].

    - everything on the "Charlemagne" was stamped for the Brigade, and the divisional rank was a virtual upgrade over the brigade rank (January-February 1945).

    - this fantasy dog tag is just funny : the "Charlemagne" unit was at its peak of power a "Waffen-Grenadier-Brigade Der SS", and never an "SS-Waffen-Grenadier-Brigade" !
"SS-Waffen" is the EPIC FAIL... It never existed.

Be careful of the next French SS items :

Lot 8559 [December 9, 2014] : (in)famous fake parisian SS poster (bad reprint, glows Under UV light - i bought one to study it). Check the SS poster topic for more infos...

Lot 10446 [December 11, 2014] : the "Charlemagne" never had any special Kragenspiegel. Some projects existed, but nothing was ever finalized in late 1944.
This Kragenspiegel is of course one made for Norvegian volunteers (check Littlejohn etc).
The error is coming from the "SS-Taschen Kalender 1945" (published in late 1944), which listed this Kragenspiegel as the one for the French, which was... a typo.

    See You

      Hi,

i contacted HH for the various dubious or fake french SS items.
I hope they will be able to remove them from the sale, as they did in the past for fake items i spotted.

      See You

          Hi,

HH replied, they will do all that they can to check in time the small listing of dubious/fakes items i sent to them.
I didn't had the time to make them a full report (with pictures, text etc), but i'm ready to help them if they need more infos.

          See You

              Hello Vince,

Littlejohn states it might be for the Danish regiment in the Nordland division.
Regarding the Taschen Kalender, how do you know it's a typo?

                Hi,

some updates : HH removed the LVF-SS and the SS parisian fake posters, same as for the fake Erkennungsmarke.
They also modified "live" the description of the Kragenspiegel, and yes my bad it was for the Danish volunteers not the Novegian ones (but it was probably never used, at least i never saw any picture with it in wear to date but we never know).

About the Taschen Kalender 1945 it is in my opinion a typo because no french or german source of the "Charlemagne" never talked of this type of Kragenspiegel.
We have a lot of "rumours" about possible Kragenspiegel designs in late 1944 when it was decided to create a brigade (then a division) with all the french volunteers.
Also this symbol has no means for the Frenchs as it is not a symbol used in France, even for political meanings.
We have here the famous "Croix celtique" ("Celtic cross"), but it is the symbol of the "Action Française", which was anti-german and patriotic...

If we see the famous page of the Taschen-Kalender 1945, we see that by mistake the Danish volunteers are said to have the same Kragenspiegel than the Norvegian ones, which again is wrong.
Also many Kragenspiegel on this page seemed to have never been produced or sent to the troops.

And we don't have to forget than when this Kalender was produced, many many things were changing :
                - the Frenchs only had around 3000 to 3500 volunteers in training, and only 1000 saw the front in Galicia during summer 1944. The plan to recruit two divisions (!) of Frenchmen had Fallen apart in late 1943.
                - the landing in Normandy and heavy fights were still in progress
                - Germany was heavily bombed
                - the SS-Hauptamt was in one of his major crisis, with the Germanische Leitstelle (for the foreign volunteers) being almost fully cancelled, with many Amter of the main office changing of organization and men. The last 12 months of the ideological and training Amter of the SS-Hauptamt were just Madness.

The French volunteers who fighted in Galicia all had the "normal" SS runes on their Kragenspiegel, and the "Charlemagne" got the same ones. It seemed that most of the Franc-Gardes from the Milice Française used two blank Kragenspiegel, without the SS runes.

I bought in the past this danish volunteer Kragenspiegel for a future article on the uniforms and publications of the french SS.

                See You

                Vince
