    Soldbuch Entry Help

    Hi gents,

    I need your help as I break down another Soldbuch I have. I'm 98% there and really took my time this go around. I am hung up on just two items I am hoping you can help me with.

    The first is for the life of me, I can't make out the month of Soldbuch issue. My gut reaction was November, but there is a pay entry (as you can see later) for 1. Okt. 1940. I know sometimes the Soldbuch was issued after they signed up (which I know happened sometimes), but 1940 is rather late for this occurrence so didn't think this was the case, and this book isn't 2nd issue (at least it doesn't say it anywhere). Any thoughts?

    The second is I'm scratching my head as to why the promotion dates were monkeyed around with? You can somewhat make out the original dates entered below, but for some reason they were written over. I have included the excerpt from Page 2, 4, and pay pages to show change in pay dates.

    Thanks for your help!!

        Befoerderungen

        1 = 20.11.40 Obergefreiter
        2 = 27.12.41 Unteroffizier
        3 = 1.4.45 Feldwebel

        4 and 5 Befoerderung entries are suspicious and IMO possible post war added entries

          The date abbreviation is very difficult to make out - but I believe it starts with an "A" that would make it Apr. or Aug.

            Thanks Naxos. As you said, 4 and 5 are odd. It was also strang that there is no change on page 2 to correspond to change 5.

              The date looks like 14.Nov.1940 to me. That will be the date of issue of the Soldbuch, not necessarily the day he joined up. Of course the date 1.10.1940 will be the date of his promotion to Gefreiter/Obergefreiter.

              However, the pay scales do not match the altered dates!!! Was this on an auction site recently and the photo has the guy wearing a side cap?

                Hi Ian, thanks for the reply; no this wasn't on an auction site. The only explanation I came up with for the altered dates was the fact that this was used after the war (cover swag removed) and perhaps he did it to get different pay?

                At this point, maybe it's best to show all the pages and see what you think. This is what I had come up with:

                - 1 Okt. 1940 - Pay entry with Inf. Rgt. 69

                - 14 Nov. 1940 - Soldbuch issued with 3./ Inf. Ers. Batl 13

                - 20 Nov. 1940 - Promoted to Obergefreiter with 3./ Inf. Ers. Batl. 86

                - 14 Mar. 1941 - Pay entry with Inf. Rgt. 69

                - 4 Nov. 1941 - Awarded both EK1 and EK2 with II/ IR Rgt 69, 10 Pz Div, with FP stamp 12567 (matching)

                - 20 Nov 1941 - Awarded PAB in Bronze also with FP 12567 stamp

                - 1 Dec 1941 & 27 Dec 1941 - Promoted to Unteroffizier with 8/ IR 69

                - 8 Jan. 1942 - Issued MP38/40

                - 16 Mar. 1942 - Issued VWA in Black

                - 27 Mar 1942 - 25 Apr 42 - Hospital

                - 11 Aug 1942 - Awarded Ost Medaille with FP 12567 stamp

                - 10 Dez 1942 - Arrived in Afrika with FP 12567 stamp

                - 13 Feb 1943 - Security check with Pz Gren Rgt 69

                - 14. Mar 1943 through ?? - Hospital entry started with some issue (any help?) and then "31a". I am unsure on the return to service date, what are your thoughts? It appears he maybe stayed until 1 Dez 1943 where there is a security check -- For me, the hospital entries were also very tricky to understand the in-out dates

                - 14. Apr 1943 - Awarded VWA in Silber

                - 9 Okt 1943 - He was back in the hospital (or still in hospital) with a security check there 1 Dez 1943

                - 3 Mar 1944 - Appears to be a fit for service entry with Pz Gren Ers Btl 86

                - 27 Aug 1944 - Returned to the hospital due to shrapnel "31b"

                - 13 Jan 1945 - Afrika Cuff issued with Pz Gren EuA 215 and signed 3 Mar 1945

                - Several equipment issued from 26.2.45-8.3.45 with 2./Pz Gren EuA Btl 215

                - 1 Apr 1945 - Promotion to Feldwebel with 8/ 128

                - 19 Apr 1945 - Back to the hospital

                - 26 Apr 1945 - Awarded VWA in Gold
