I have had this tag for several years. A few years ago I had posted it on the forum. I wanted to know the name of the soldier that it belonged to. I was told that only the family could get the name by the number on the tag. A day later a fellow forum member sent me this. 3rd coy Tank defeat column 160, later renamed to 3rd coy of tank hunter column 160. Panzerabwehr - Abteilung 160 Aufgestelit am 30. October 1939. Am 1. April 1940 in Panzerjager-Abteilung 160 umbenannt. Am 14. August 1940 motorisiert. Im Januar 1943 in Stalingrad vemichtet. In action with 60. Infantrie-Division Destroyed in Stalingrad. The number 162 represents the soldiers name that is with a list with his unit. Later on I was emailed by a forum member that said this tag belonged to a Sgt. Albert Dressel Pz Gren Div 13.10. 1942 and earned high awards including the Knight's Cross on 14/061940 where he was killed in action. Anyone have anything different for this?

Hello
The only (!!!) chance, to get a name to this dogtag is the WASt.
Only the WASt (without any exception) is able to give you a name.

Thanks. All I know is that someone on the forum emailed me that it belonged to Albert Dressel Pz,Gren,Div 13.10.1942. At that time I didn't know that Dressel was an Iron Cross recipient but just another soldier in the German army. I put it away in my collection thinking that the search was over ti identify this tag. I have several U.S. dog tags in my collection and many of them are identified by me from research. I just want to confirm what I already had. This person that sent me the email must have known something. I had saved the email by copy but I cannot find it. Maybe family? Maybe a comrad from the war?

They responded that they do not release that information. I have two Civil War Databases that I pay yearly. I can get the unit, number, company, years and battles on many of them. That is because they all have deceased long ago. I figure there will be q database similar for WW 1 vets in the near future and then the WW 11 veterans. I guess in a few decades some one else will have that opportunity to research a database like the American Civil War. By then other countries will follow. Bill

1 in 100 million chance
You cannot get the data because of personal privately laws in many European countries are vastly different then here in the USA! If you are not a direct descent of the family, it is very likely you will never get this information if they have it in the first place..
Option 1: Try to locate the family Dressel and ask for their help. (1 in 100 million chance)
Option 2: Find an expert on 60th Infantry Division and ask for their help. (1 in 10 million chance)
Option 3: Legally change your last name to Dressel then write WASt about information related to your great grandfather. (50/50 chance) lol
Option 3 is your best chance. lol

After lots of searching I found what could possibly be Feldwebel Albert Dressel's descendants. He was born in 1914 at Rebesgrun Saxony Germany. In the area of this location there are 8 Dressel addresses. Could one of these be his relatives? Possibly. The list includes phone numbers and addresses. I am willing to call these numbers but I cannot speak only a small amount of German and would not be able to communicate. My dad could speak it fluently being from Pewamo Westphalia Michigan an all German town. I am hoping that a forum member is in the area of Rebesgrun/Saxony Germany and help me out. I will pay for the troubles. If not I will have to tackle this search myself. I am still convinced this identification disc belongs to Dressel from what a forum member emailed me a few years ago. I have over 400 tags that are mostly US and I have my work ahead of me. One at a time. Bill
