    Wehrpas 2nd Copy?

    I picked up a Wehrpas the other week that has the word 'Zweitsdreift' (I think) stamped under the 'Wehpas'. My poor translation of this was '2nd copy' or 'duplicate copy'.

    I assume you would be issued with a 2nd copy if your original had been lost or destroyed for some reason. How common was it for soldiers to be issued with a 2nd copy of their wehrpas?

    Hi Graeme,

    It is quite common for Zweitschrift to be found.....for example nearly everyone who was under 6 Armee at Stalingrad received a replacement Wehrpaß as their originals were no doubt in enemy territory!

    Some have a notation as to why a second copy has been issued....loss due to enemy action, as a member of the form 6 Armee, bomb damage etc.

    Those that are more rare to find are Dritteschrift which is a third copy! I have never seen a Vierteschrift however!!
