Division zbv 608 Soldbuch KIA Halbe

I came across this group in my collection recently and decided to share it.

Helmut Wolff spent most of his army career with the 68th Infantry Division. Serving in Poland and Russia. He was wounded in Oct. 1943 and then again in June 1944. The second time was more severe, wounds to the head, lungs and stomach.

In Febuary 1945 he was assigned to the Division Feld Ers. Batl 608. This unit saw action on the Oder Front and part or all of it ended up in the Halbe Pocket.

Helmut was wounded during the breakout through the town of Halbe. A document from the German Red Cross came with the group and is filled out with information from a fellow soldier, Martin Offermann, who saw Helmut's final moments.

He died in an ambulance by Halbe on the 29th or 30th of April 1945 and he is buried in Halbe in a marked grave. One of the lucky few who have a tombstone.

The group also came with two unworn medals.

A great addition to my slowly growing Halbe pocket collection.

I have no photo of Helmut although the document states photos came with the soldbuch. No photo was ever attached to the soldbuch.

Nice soldbuch with Halbe 1945 connection!
          I like it

I wonder when his family found out that he died?
I'm collecting anything related to the towns Castricum and Bakkum during WWII.
Also soldbucher from 116pzdiv. And 1944-1945 eastfront pockets, kampfgruppe and Oder front.
