Soldbuch Cover and foto: SS-Totenkopfsturmbann Buchenwald

    Hi Gents,

I had posted this in the pic section, but a few members have asked if I could post this in this forum for the benefit of those who may not migrate to other areas of the site..

I picked this Soldbuch cover/pic in Europe about 20 years ago from a flea market, out of a box of old paper ephemera. It was one of about a dozen I picked out, all that was left of various Heer, Luftwaffe and SS identity books.

I have often wondered if I could put a name to the face here, but I can't quite make it out..

A question I have: knowing that by February 1941 the appellation Totenkopf had been removed from all units except for those in the TK-division, could this cover have been part of a pre-February 1941 Soldbuch that had a picture before they were mandated?

If anyone has the rest of this book, it would be neat to put together some information on this fellow as he was no doubt a witness to some of the most horrific history of the 20th century. If anyone has any information to add, that would be great!

        Thanks CWP and Phil!

Sutterlin is hard to decipher, it is even harder when it is sloppily written!

I wonder if there is a master list somewhere of the camp guards at Buchenwald

Although I'm far from "knowledgeable", I'd go with Friedrich Ernst also. Very interesting.

Although way outside of my interest, there are many here with a massive interest in anything KZ related, so there may well indeed be the master list which you seek.

As for the Soldbuch cover, my eyes are seeing Friedrich Ernst.

            Regards Richard.
Always looking for Luftwaffe Kampfflieger related document groups. In particular anything to Kampfgeschwader 2.
