Information about this kind of documents

I have often seen this kind of documents asociated with sunk submarines, signed by Friedeburg or by the Flottillenchef and always in 1943 or 1944. I want to ask you when the sailor (or his family better said) were eligible have this document or how many of them were made.

    Best regards.

It isn't just associated with sunk submarines but with any sailor killed in action including on surface ships although I don't think it will be possible to know just how many were awarded.

Thank you for your answer hucks. Is it know the criteria for the award or when was it instituted?

I have no idea when it was instituted I'm afraid or how widely it was used within the KM but I have seen them issued for sailors killed on small craft such as U-Boats & Vorpostenboot and right the way up to Tirpitz. Criteria would be the sailor being killed in service.

Not only for sailors, but all members of the Kriegsmarine. I saw some for civil administration female workers killed during bomb raids.
