21st Panzer Division Normandy Vet Soldbuch

A soldbuch to Gerhard Augustin, he joined the 21st Pz Div during its' rebuilding in 1943.

No big awards while with the Feld Ers. Komp but he survived to see the end of the war.

I am not sure where he was located during the first couple of weeks of June 1944.

Hi Lee. Unusual "double" Unit Entries as Fiel Units, interesting. No Wounds, no awards ?? Lionel.

Nice document with unusual double entries, indeed. And more, with Feld Ers. Komp. instead of Batl. !

              Hi all !

Interesting Soldbuch and thanks for showing !

The possible explanation for the double entries :
The reformation of 21. PzDiv. was based on the core of units of verst. Schnelle Brigade West.
              http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...den/SBWest.htm

This unit did not have a full Feldersatz-Btl., but only a Feldersatz-Kp. 931.
(Most of the units of Schn.Brig. West carried the No. of the Art.Rgt., 931.)

This Kp. was incorporated into 21. Pz.Div. and then redesignated as Feldersatz-Kp. 200. It was also
designated as Divisions-Kampfschule (according to an article by V. Scherzer on the 21. PZ.Div.)
This unit was upgraded to Feldersatz-Btl. 200 (with Stab and 4 Kp.) as late as November 1944.
(confirmed by entry 5 on p. 3 and in accordance with p. 6, dated Feb. 1944).

I am not sure, why this unit would be attached or subordinated to Pz.Gren.Rgt. 435, resp. 125,
as the p. 4 entry seems to claim. All Kriegsgliederungen I found, show it to be an indedpendent unit,
subordinated to the division HQ, as usual for a FEB.
(Also, Tessin/Lexikon do only mention a Pz.Gren. Rgt.433, but this must be a typo for 435 in reality,
              also confirmed by this soldbuch.)

It seems, the clerk simply forgot to cross out the Felders.Kp. 931 entry, when the designation changed.
(Also the change to Felders.Btl. 200 is not listed on. p. 4, but confirmed by the promotion entry on p.3).

I do not see any reason, why he should not be with his unit in Early June ?!

I could not find any infos on (Armee-) Kraftfahrpark 531, except that it was located in the Amiens area in late 1943.

With his training as signal soldier and working for a Kraftfahrpark for quite some time it would be interesting,
if somebody could read his civilian profession on p. 2 ?

              Cheers,

              Archi
