Thanks for the reactions guys! Happy you like it!

Does someone know or Josef Horn, veteran of the Holdy Battery is still living? He was born in 1925 and was still alive in 2007. He could have many more information about the Battery and Lt. Liebler...

Congratulations Aram. I could seriously kick myself for selling this as an Eastern Front Soldbuch on the e-stand. But then again I can't blame myself too much as the info on his move to the 91. Luftlande-Division was to be found only in the divisional records and not (directly) in the Soldbuch itself. If this precious information came from Boris you should indeed be very thankful to him . Either way, great research and good to see that this one ended up in your Normandy collection.

The more research you do and the better you know your subject, the "luckier" you are.

Yes, (price wise) I was very lucky this time. When I saw the day he was wounded in his Soldbuch, in combination with the Feldlazarett 709 I couldn't believe it.

On the first page is the Feldpostnumber 13545 = II./ Artillerie-Regiment 191, I think his wound was write up there?

As always, when you posted a thread, 2 days later you found many more information. Here we go:

The Beobachungs Stelle der 3./ 191 Artillerie-Regiment was at WN2( WN 101) / WN2A (WN 101A), but the Germans renumbered their Strongpoints short before the invasion. Wiederstandsnest 2 and Wiederstandsnest 2A were still under construction. It was at "La Petit Dune" at the beach near Pouppeville. The Beobachtungs-Trupp of the 3th battery AR 191 existed of 3 soldiers, instead of the usual 4 soldiers. On 5 June 1944, one of these "Funkers" was send back to the battery around 15.00 to check and repair some phone lines as they didn't work well. It took him 2 hours to find and repair the problem. The men of the batterie get their dinner at 21.00 in the evening of 5 June 1944.This Funker had to stand guard from 22.00 to 24.00. Short after midnight the alarm was given and the soldiers get to their positions. This Funker didn't return to the B-Stelle as he was wounded around 11.00 in the morning of 6 June 1944 at the Holdy battery side.

This gives the conclusion that Lt. Liebler and only 1 Funker were at their B-Stelle in the early morning of D-Day. WN-2 was defended by 30 soldiers of the 2./ 919 Grenadier Regiment. This platoon of the Grenadier-Regiment 919 was under command of Leutnant Ritter. Widerstandsnest 2 was taken by the Americans of the 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division in the early afternoon. Most of the Germans were taken prisoner or killed. Liebler escaped.

I attached a map of WN-2 in this post!

                                Hello Everyone,

Last months I got contact with some veterans of my Soldbücher units. They provide me with additional information. This is my last try to get contact with Herr Josef Horn, former member of the Holdy Battery and comrade of Leutnant Liebler. Is there anyone who knows if Herr Horn is still alive?

                                Thanks in advance!
