Hi Gary,
Thanks for the reply. Look forward to learning what you can find - All I have found at present is that the battle resulted in the petering out of the Soviet offensive in East Prussia.
From what I can tell he was not with the HG, but rather various flak units. Although LW isnt my area, this grouping was too hard to resist :PAttached Files

"The lead Soviet attack elements entered Gumbinnen. On 21 October, there were only Flak Abteilung 802 (Oberstleutnant Salomon) and stragglers from combat groups of FJR 16. All enemy breakthrough attempts failed here at this blocking position. The flak battalion alone destroyed 28 enemy tanks on this day, while the 1st battery (your one) alone put 21 combat vehicles and 19 anti-tank guns out of commission. Volkssturm companies were thrown into the battle to support the artillerymen and paratroopers. Battalions Goldap and Treoburg distinguished themselves."
I'll try and post a map which puts the Soviet East Prussia offensive in perspective. The reason I thought he might be HG is that they took part in the counteroffensive against the Soviet breakthrough.
