    KIA SS-Soldbuch

    Dear Members!

I would like to show You my SS Solduch. I purchased it here on E-Stand. I know it is not a rare item, but it is one of my favourite items, because of its history. Now I would like to share some information about the Soldbuch and its history.

The Soldbuch was issued to Johann Zilkowsky (born 10.05.1924 in Eichwald, nowadays Debniki, in Poland). He was trained in 10. battery of SS-Artillerie-Ausbildungs-und-Ersatz-Regiment in September 1944. After the training he became member of 2. battery of the schwere SS-Artillerie-Abteilung 101. Also in September the unit was renamed to schwere SS-Artillerie-Abteilung 501. The unit took part in the operations of the battle of Bulge and later, in March 1945 in Hungary (Frühlingserwachen/Spring Awakening) as part of the I. SS-Panzerkorps. (It is the first interesting point for me, because I live in Germany, but I'm originally Hungarian )

On the last, 15th picture you can see a stamp, which remained in the Solbuch, because the soldier (because of his death) couldn't use.
According to volksbund.de, Johann Zilkowsky died/vanished in Stollhof (Austria) and was buried in Blumau (Austria). On the maps below you can see, that both are very close to the Hungarian-Austrian border.

(In June I'm going to travel from Germany to Hungary, so I'm going to drive to Blumau and make pictures of his grave and try to get some other information in the cemetery.)

And for last, here are two picture of an SS-Artillerie dog tag. Zilkowsky was trained in the 10. battery of SS. Artillerie-Ausbildungs-und-Ersatz-Regiment, and this dog tag is from the 11. battery of the same unit. The tag was found near Linz (Austria)

I hope you liked this short story and it wasn't so boring.

    Best Regards

Nice SB, intressting that he was transfered that far away to get buried, as far as I know there's a military cemetery in Blumau, most probably he was exhumed postwar by the Volksbund and got a correct military burial in Blumau.

          Thank You, Gentlemen!

One other interesting thing, that my collector friend has found: Zilkowsky was trained in an artillery unit, but on the photo the Waffenfarbe on his shoulder board is very light. I think it cannot be red (to show the artillery unit). Maybe it is white, for infantry or something like that. What's your oppinion? Is it possible that first he got a normal (not artillery boars) but later he got the good ones? Or the photo was replaced?

          Regards
          Gábor

Was he in hospital in March '45? Perhaps he died of wounds and was buried in a civilian cemetary and moved later?

            Nice item.

            Regards,
            Simon

              Hi Fellows!

              Am not an expert....
What do guys think on his waffenfarbe on the photo, isn't red.
Other strange thing the colour of the stamp on photo is different than on 2. page.
Is it possible the photo is a replaced one?

              I hope am wrong

              O.

                signatures

                Hello!

I made a photo of the signatures of the SB.
The third one is from the back of the photo. I think all of them are from the same person...interesting/strange

Thank You for your answer! And can I ask You, what do You think about the waffenfarbe or the different colour of the stamping? Do you think is the photo a replaced one? Because some of my collector friends have doubts in connection with the originality of the photo and also of the Soldbuch...

                      Thank you in advance!

It is possible than the stamp for the photo was stamped later than these of page 2. About the WHITE waffenfarbe on the photo, it is possible than how the soldier was a VD, he go firts to a rekruten Depot where the waffenfarbe is white. For me the strangest thing is the number of togtag (how no indication, IMHO it is the same of the Soldbuch), I cant see when the Soldbuch was open.

First, thank you for your answer! In the SB there is just this number (2961) above on the 1. page. Under on the 1. page there is just the stamp of the SS unit, and there is no dog tag number, as well es no bloodtype.

24.September 1944 if I'm not wrong. It is a bit hard to read it, because it is a bit faded and is is written with gothic letters.
